Hurricane Franklin Recap

Hurricane Franklin formed from a disturbance within a monsoonal trough over the Windward Islands on August 19, developing into a tropical depression and then Tropical Storm Franklin by August 20. The storm initially moved west-northwestward, struggling with wind shear before becoming more organized and turning northward. Franklin struck the Pedernales Province in the Dominican Republic on August 23 before weakening slightly and re-emerging into the Atlantic.

After encountering strong wind shear and land interaction, Franklin entered a more favorable environment and rapidly intensified into a Category 4 hurricane with winds of 150 mph on August 29. The storm then weakened and transitioned into an extratropical cyclone on September 1, dissipating three days later. Franklin brought heavy rainfall and wind damage to Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, causing displacement and infrastructure damage. Minor impacts were also felt on Bermuda, including power outages.
