Hurricane Don Recap

Tropical Storm Don formed from a trough of low pressure over the central Atlantic on July 14, east-northeast of Bermuda. Initially a subtropical storm, Don transitioned to a tropical depression on July 17 while moving in an anticyclonic loop over the central Atlantic. By July 22, Don had intensified into a Category 1 hurricane with sustained winds of 75 mph while moving over the Gulf Stream. However, the storm quickly weakened back to a tropical storm on July 23 as it moved over cooler waters north of the Gulf Stream.

By July 24, Don had degenerated into a non-tropical low about 400 mi east of Newfoundland, which eventually transitioned into an extratropical cyclone a day later. The storm's structure deteriorated as it moved over the Atlantic, and it continued to move east-northeastward. Despite its brief period as a hurricane, Tropical Storm Don ultimately did not have a significant impact as it dissipated over the open waters of the Atlantic.
