Hurricane Isaac Recap

Hurricane Isaac was a Category 2 storm that developed from a non-tropical low northeast of Bermuda on September 26, 2020. As the storm became better organized and detached from a frontal boundary, it was designated as Tropical Storm Isaac. It continued to strengthen and reached peak intensity as a Category 2 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 105 mph and a minimum barometric pressure of 968 mbar, located west of The Azores.

As Hurricane Isaac moved towards the northeast, it began to encounter increasingly unfavorable conditions such as wind shear, dry air, and cooler sea surface temperatures. This led to the storm weakening back to a tropical storm before completing its extra-tropical transition on September 30, 2020. In anticipation of Isaac potentially impacting the Azores, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere issued a yellow warning for the region.
