Tropical Storm Katia Recap

Tropical Storm Katia developed from a tropical wave that moved off the west coast of Africa on August 29. Although it took some time for the system to be classified as a tropical depression due to convective disorganization, it eventually intensified into a tropical storm on September 2. Katia peaked with winds of 60 mph before weakening as a result of increasing wind shear, eventually degenerating into a remnant low by September 4.

After dissipating, the remnants of Tropical Storm Katia made an elongated loop over the Central Atlantic before turning southeastward and dissipating on September 15. Overall, Katia was a relatively short-lived storm that did not have a significant impact on land, making it primarily a maritime hazard during its brief existence.
