Hurricane Margot Recap

A tropical wave off the west coast of Africa developed into Tropical Depression Fourteen on September 7, eventually strengthening into Tropical Storm Margot. Despite initial obstacles like northerly shear and dry mid-level air, bursts of deep convection allowed Margot to reach hurricane status by September 11. The storm reached its peak intensity with winds of 90 mph on September 13, but weakened to a tropical storm on September 15 due to upwelled cooler waters and dry air intrusion.

Caught in weak steering currents, Margot began to drift east-southeastward, eventually degenerating into a remnant low about 715 miles southwest of the Azores on September 16. The remnant low completed a clockwise loop before dissipating two days later. Overall, Tropical Storm Margot exhibited a well-defined inner core and showed improvements in structure as it moved through the Atlantic.
