Hurricane Milton Recap

Hurricane Milton was a powerful Category 5 hurricane that formed in the Gulf of Mexico in early October. The storm rapidly intensified and reached Category 5 intensity with winds of 180 mph (285 km/h) by October 7. However, the hurricane went through periods of weakening and strengthening due to various environmental factors, including an eyewall replacement cycle. Ultimately, Hurricane Milton made landfall near Siesta Key, Florida as a Category 3 hurricane with 120 mph (195 km/h) winds on October 10.

The formation of Hurricane Milton began with a broad area of low pressure in the western Caribbean that gradually developed into a tropical depression and then a tropical storm. The storm continued to intensify in a very favorable environment, reaching Category 5 intensity within a short period of time. Despite weakening to a Category 4 hurricane and later to a Category 3 hurricane, Hurricane Milton left a significant impact as it made landfall, causing strong winds and heavy rainfall in the affected areas. Overall, Hurricane Milton demonstrated the rapid intensification and changing nature of tropical cyclones in the Atlantic region.
