Tropical Storm Rina Recap

Tropical Storm Rina formed on September 28, 2022, about 1,000 miles east-northeast of Barbados. The storm's wind field briefly intensified, reaching a peak intensity of 50 mph, before weakening due to strong northeasterly wind shear and dry mid-level air. By October 1, Rina had lost its organized deep convection and its surface circulation became increasingly ill-defined, leading to its degeneration into a remnant low. The remnant low dissipated on October 2, about 670 miles southeast of Bermuda.

Rina originated from a tropical wave that crossed the west coast of Africa and entered the Atlantic between September 22 and September 23. A broad area of low pressure formed, followed by the organization of showers and thunderstorms within the disturbance. Despite briefly intensifying into a tropical storm, Rina's lifespan was short-lived due to unfavorable atmospheric conditions. The storm's relatively brief existence and eventual dissipation as a remnant low exemplify the unpredictable nature of tropical cyclones in the Atlantic region.
